Statement
I create artworks that abstractly express subjects while emphasizing materiality. The reason I choose such a style of expression is that I entrust my artworks with the potential for abstract connections, such as empathy or affirmation toward others.
The motifs I depict are diverse, but I place great importance on materiality in order to represent “an abstract existence that is indeed present here.” Additionally, the subjects I depict are all abstracted or rendered at a lower resolution from their original states. By doing so, unvisualized areas—blank zones—emerge. What lies within those blank zones? Viewers would unconsciously project their own inner selves onto those blank zones and come to see themselves there. I believe that is empathy for the work, empathy for oneself, and leads to empathy for others.
Originally, the self and others are formless, highly abstract entities. To live oneself and to live with others, what is truly necessary is not digitized information about oneself or others, but empathy for each other’s chaos. My artworks contain such a message.
私は対象を抽象的に表現した、物質性のある作品を制作しています。そのような表現方法を選択する理由は、他者への共感・肯定といった抽象的な繋がりの可能性を作品に託しているからです。
私の描いているモチーフは様々ですが、「確かにここに実在している、抽象的な存在」を描くために、物質性をとても大切にしています。また描く対象は元の状態からどれも抽象化・もしくは解像度を落とした状態で描かれています。そうすることによりそこには、描かれない場所：空白地帯が現れます。その空白地帯には一体何があるのか。鑑賞者はその空白地帯に無意識的に自らの内面を映し、それを見ることになるだろうと私は考えています。それが作品への共感であり、自分自身への共感であり、そして他者への共感へと繋がると私は信じています。
本来自己や他者というものは形のないとても抽象的な存在です。そんな自己を生き、また他者と共に生きるために本当に必要なのは自分や他者のデータ化された情報ではなく、それぞれの混沌への共感ではないでしょうか。私の作品にはそのようなメッセージが込められています。
